Privacy Policy

Effective October 17, 2026

Cottage & Chalet Rentals (“we”, “us”) runs the website cottagechaletrentals.ca, where owners of cottages and chalets advertise their properties for rent and travellers find them. We are a sole proprietorship registered in Ontario, Canada (Business Identification Number 1001781880).

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how we protect it and what choices you have. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for people in Québec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25).

1. What we collect

When an owner registers: your name, email address, the province and town or lake where your property is, and, if you choose to give it, a link to your existing listing on another website. We also record whether you accepted our Terms of Use and this policy, whether you agreed to receive news by email, the date and time, and the language of the page.

When a traveller asks to be notified: your email address, your consent, the date and time and the page language.

When you email us: your email address and whatever you choose to write.

Technical information: to keep the site secure and working, our hosting provider processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. We use this only for security, fraud and spam prevention and basic operation. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies.

We do not collect payment information. Guests pay owners directly.

2. Why we use it

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for any purpose other than those above without asking you first.

3. Consent

We collect personal information with your consent, which you give by submitting a form. Consent to receive news by email is separate and optional. You can withdraw your consent at any time by writing to us or using the unsubscribe link in any of our emails. If you withdraw consent needed to publish a listing, we will no longer be able to publish it.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as much as they need:

These providers may store or process information outside Canada and outside Québec, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to local authorities under their laws. We chose these providers because they protect information with recognized contractual and security measures. When your listing is published, the details you choose to show (for example the property description, photos and contact method) will be public.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

5. How long we keep it

We keep owner registration information while your listing is being prepared or published, and for up to 24 months after our last contact if the listing is not published. Traveller notification emails are kept until we send the opening announcement, or until you unsubscribe. After that we delete or anonymize the information, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

6. How we protect it

Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to the database and the email account is limited to people who need it to run the site and is protected by strong, unique passwords. If a confidentiality incident creates a risk of serious harm, we will notify the people affected and the regulators as the law requires.

7. Your rights

You can ask us to:

Write to the Privacy Officer at [email protected]. We answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Québec, to the Commission d’accès à l’information.

8. Cookies

This site does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting provider may set a strictly necessary cookie to protect the site against attacks and bots.

9. Children

This site is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If the change is significant, we will also tell registered owners by email before it takes effect.

11. Contact

Questions or requests: [email protected], or by mail to the address above.
